The Australian Hockey League (AHL) is Australia's premier national domestic Hockey competition and is widely recognised as one of the strongest and most competitive leagues in the world.
AHL provides an important platform for aspiring Australian representatives and acts as the 'stepping stone' for Hockey's future international stars.
The Canberra Lakers were one of the six teams to compete in the first season of the Men's National Hockey League (MNHL) in 1991, a competition played over a two month period which did not limit player eligibility to state of origin.
The Canberra Strikers joined the Women's national Hockey League (WNHL), one of seven states to compete in the 'Stix Series" from 1993 to 2001 before the league evolved in 2002 to become the Australian Hockey League (AHL).
