Level 1 Umpiring Course - 2012
Hockey ACT Umpiring and Technical Committee (UTC) will be conducting a level 1 umpiring course.
- When: Monday 18 June 2012
- Where: National Hockey Centre, Lyneham - Australia Room
- Time: Starting 6:30pm
Individuals wanting to participate will need to register and complete the online component prior to the course, by doing the following:
- Email their name, club and email adress to programs@hockeyact.org.au.
- Register online with Hockey Australia and pay the registration fee ($40). Hockey ACT will cover 50% of the fee when proof of payment is provided and ask that clubs consider meeting the remaining cost for participants.
- Complete the online component - must be completed prior to attending course
- Attend the training evening (18 June 2012)
- Be assessed by an umpire assessor during the 2012 season.
The course is an excellent opportunity for:
- any individual currently umpiring at around senior 3rd grade level or equivalent that aspires to umpire at a higher level; and
- any individual wanting to gain the skills needed to umpire at around the senior 3rd grade level or below for their club.

FIH Hockey Rules
The FIH is Hockey's international governing body and is responsible for developing the rules for the sport. Rule books and other information regarding the rules of hockey is available from the FIH website.
Umpiring and Technical Committee
Umpiring and Technical Committee responsibilities:
- Playing rules' interpretation
- Umpire and technical education
- Umpire and technical assessment
- Appointment of umpires for competition fixtures, championships and events where appropriate
- Umpire and technical officer pathways
Committee Management
The Committee is to be appointed by the Hockey ACT Board for a term of one year and must report regularly to a Board Director. The Committee may co-opt people to serve on sub-committees to be responsible for various competition appointments and assessments. The Competitions Coordinator will be an ex-officio member of this committee.
JOEY Program (Junior Officiating Education for Youth)
JOEY is a junior umpire development programs that aims to teach young people the skills of umpiring.
Started in 2008, the JOEY program consists of a number of theory sessions and practical sessions with the assistance of senior umpire coaches within the ACT with the ability for young umpires to attain a junior umpiring badge.
