Julie Allais

Julie Allais has been a part of the HACT Community since 2000 when her two sons started playing Minkey. This was followed by their daughter a few years later.

Beginning in 2004, she assisted her club Valleys to increase the participation of males in hockey. She was the Valleys Minkey Coordinator from 2004 to 2006 and with this assisted in coaching, fundraising, attending registrations days and HACT Minkey Meetings, and producing Minkey newsletters. At the same time, she was also the Valleys Junior Boys Coordinator from 2006 – 2011.

During this time Julie established the Canberra Regional Boy’s Program to improve representative hockey for males and to attempt to match what the girls program that was in existance. In recognition of the need to improve junior boys’ standards, Hockey ACT formed a regional boys committee in 2006 comprising 2 office staff and 6 volunteers. Following selection trials in May 2006, two teams were selected in each of the following age groups: U11s, U13s and U15s in preparation for the first regional boys’ carnival held on Sunday 23 July at Southwell Park. Julie was responsible for identify and directly contacting potential interstate associations to participate in Regional Carnivals.

While sitting as Chair on the Junior Competition Committee, Julie was a part of assisting HACT in restructuring the competition playing days, amended the rules to allow girls to play in the boys competition that was severely struggling with participation and encouraged joint teams where needed. Julie took the approach that participation was essential and that HACT needed to make it easier for people to participate.

Julie was also awarded the Bill Weider Cup (Administrator of the Year) in 2008 for her contribution to the HACT Community. Julie also managed both ACT State and Canberra sides in 2008.
