How Do I Get Started in Hockey in the ACT?

Hockey ACT offer an array of playing opportunities for everyone. Please see details below for each offering to find the best option to suit you!
Senior Competition
Hockey ACT offer senior/adult competition for all ages and grades. Games are played at various times throughout the week and weekend, at both the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham and Tuggeranong Hockey Park. We have competitions to accommodate all skill levels.

Junior Competition
Hockey ACT offer junior competition for all ages and grades from Under 10s to Under 18s. Games are played at various times throughout the week and weekend, at both the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham and Tuggeranong Hockey Park (except Under 10s who play at Willows, ANU). We have competitions to accommodate all skill levels.
If you are unsure of which club to join Hockey ACT has created a School/Club Affiliation List to point you towards a local club in your area, alternatively, contact the Hockey ACT office on (02) 6189 0570, and the team would be happy to assist!
Social Competition
Hockey ACT offers a Social Competition across three nights run over 6-weeks. Competitions commence in January 2024. All games are played at the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham, ACT. For more info and to register, check out our Social Comp page!
Walking Hockey
The Walking Hockey Program runs as a short-sided modified version of the game, played on a smaller field with a lighter ball. The program is open to all ages, abilities and skill levels and runs at the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham. Sessions will consist of small warm-up drills followed by a 40 minute game. Participants are also invited to stay after the session for light refreshments and a chance to chat and catch up with other participants at Pickup Stix Café. Find out more about Walking Hockey here
Hookin2Hockey
Beginner hockey program available for new players up to the age of 10 (previously known as Minkey). All of our clubs run programs at various locations throughout Canberra and surrounding areas, and registration includes a hockey stick pack. The Hookin2Hockey season runs from April to September. Urban Rec’s J-Ball
A fun, casual and social evening for adults (18+), held on Wednesday evenings at the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham, ACT. Seasons run all year long. For more info and to register, head to Urban Rec Canberra’s website!
Men’s Masters
The ACT Men’s Masters play regular sessions on both Thursday afternoons and Monday evenings. For more info and to register, go to the Men’s Masters website!
