MARGOT GRANT

Margot commenced work in July 1997, assisting with the development and running of canteen and catering arrangements at Lyneham (National Hockey Centre). She continues this work through until September 2010.

The following year, she assisted in setting up and managing the Tuggeranong Hockey Centre canteen from March 2011 until September 2014.

Margot also assisted (part time) in opening and closing the facility at Tuggeranong when required for training and competition – December 2016 until recently. In addition to opening and closing the facility, for close to two years she also managed the gate and collected parking money on a voluntary basis. This came to a halt when she was robbed one day, which made Hockey ACT move to having a Security Company take over this role.

As well as her assistance around the facility, Margot also assisted as Manager for several of ACT Representative Sides due to her daughter’s involvement in the programs. This culminated in Margot being Manager of the ACT Strikers (ACT’s National League Side) in 1993 and 1994. Below is a summary of the year and teams she was associated with.

Manager            U21 Womens Rep Team              1987, 1988

Manager            Inaugural Strikers Team               1993, and 1994.

Margot still comes and watches her daughter, Jenny Natali, and granddaughters play hockey in the local competition.

John Mackinnon worked closely with Margot during her time at Hockey ACT. John describes her as extremely resilient and the type of person who didn’t let things get to her. Anything that was asked of her she would do and he saw this on multiple occasions – this included during the June Long Weekend Carnivals where she was always under the pump, but found a way to push through and always keep her general sense of humour.
