Ron Jackson

Ron Jackson has been a part of the Hockey ACT community since 1991 after his son commenced playing hockey and Ron was persuaded to pick up a stick. His involvement with Hockey in the ACT covers an array of roles from player, official and volunteer.

Ron has been described by all that know him as a doer and he has continued that reputation through his involvement with Hockey ACT. To assist the competition Ron volunteered as a Facility Supervisor for the best part of a decade to ensure that the facilities were well presented and the weekends would run smoothly. When HACT had an issues with its cleaning contract Ron was the first person to put his hand up to assist fill the void until a solution could be found.

Ron was a member of the National Hockey Centre Board for six years in the late 90’s and early 2000’s assisting the association with the ongoing development of the National Hockey Centre.

Ron has served as a member of HACT Disciplinary Tribunal for 15 years a role which he continues today.

Ron was a consistent presence on the ACT Men’s Masters Committee through the 1990’s and returned to the committee for 2018 and 2019.

Always willing to assist the association when required Ron enlisted his volunteer services at any event including the 2005 Champions Trophy, multiple International series, multiple June Long Weekend Carnivals, multiple Quikstix Schools Cups, multiple National Championships and AHL home matches. For the last three decades Ron was always been willing to lend his services where ever they could be utilised.

One of Ron’s lasting services to HACT has been as an electrician. Leading into the 2005 Champions Trophy Ron in conjunction with Peter Tozer volunteered to re-wire the entire Lyneham facility. They sourced donations of equipment and parts from various companies across Canberra and installed fibre links for the whole building. Ron and Peter spent months ensuring the facility was re-wired and ready for the future all at no expense to Hockey ACT for labour or equipment. A truly sizable contribution.

As a player Ron represented the ACT as a player at 5 National Masters Championships including the 2003 Championships where Ron was a member of the ACT O50’s side which won the National Championships. Locally Ron played for 2 decades with Daramalan and Valleys/Barton. Ron also assisted managing many teams locally as well as schools teams at Quikstix.

Ron Jackson received a Silver Service Award for his contribution to Masters Hockey.
