2025 CDC CANBERRA CHILL FINAL SQUADS ANNOUNCED

The Canberra Chill have confirmed their final squads of 25 players for the 2025 Hockey One League season, marking another exciting chapter for the club as they prepare to launch their campaign on home turf at the National Hockey Centre, Lyneham, on Saturday 11 October, 2025, against long-time rivals NSW Pride.

After back-to-back Grand Final appearances in 2023 and 2024, both the Men’s and Women’s sides have proven themselves as formidable contenders in the Hockey One League. Despite narrowly missing premiership glory in consecutive years, the Chill have earned widespread respect for their consistency, resilience, and exciting brand of hockey.

Men’s Squad Highlights

The Men’s team, led by Head Coach Seyi Onitiri, welcomes back Kookaburra Anand Gutpe and rising star Davis Atkin, who both added international caps in 2025. Japanese star Kaito Tanaka also returns, this season joined by compatriot Koji Yamasaki.
In a major recruitment coup, dual Olympian Tom Craig has joined the Chill. With more than 150 international caps and a decorated career including an Olympic silver medal, Commonwealth Games gold, and World Cup bronze, Craig’s powerhouse style and creativity will add further strength to Canberra’s midfield.

Women’s Squad Highlights

The Women’s squad, guided by Head Coach Marcelle Keet, features a dynamic mix of youth, local talent, international calibre, and proven strike power.

Young guns Georgina West, Lauren Yee, Alyssa Smith, and Georgie Smithers, all recently named in the Jillaroos (Australia’s Under 21 team), headline the emerging talent. They are joined by former HC Melbourne player and current Jillaroos member Josie Lawton. Josie’s sister, Amy Lawton, brings world-class experience, with 92 caps for the Hockeyroos at just 23 years old. Fellow Hockeyroo Alice Arnott adds further firepower, boasting nine goals in her 23 international appearances. International recruits include New Zealand Black Sticks duo Anna Crowley and Olivia Shannon. Crowley’s defensive strength and composure will be invaluable, while Shannon, captain of the Black Sticks, adds blistering pace, sharp skills, and a proven goal-scoring instinct.

Both coaches expressed pride in their squads, confident they possess the right blend of leadership, experience, and fresh talent to take the Chill to the next level.

“We’ve built strong momentum over the past two seasons,” said Onitiri. “This group has shown they can compete with the best, and we’re hungry to take that next step.”

Keet added: “The growth and belief within this team is inspiring. The players have worked hard to earn their places in the final 25, and we’re ready to make Canberra proud.”

Looking Ahead

With passionate home support behind them, the Chill are determined to turn narrow heartbreak into history-making success in 2025.

The Canberra Chill will open their Hockey One League season at home on Saturday, 11 October at the National Hockey Centre, Lyneham. This traditional rivalry clash with NSW Pride has drawn record-breaking crowds in the past, including the Hockey One League attendance record set in 2023. In 2025, the Chill are determined not only to beat their rivals on the field but also to surpass their own crowd record, encouraging fans across the region to show their support.
