2026 Women CL1 Preview

The 2026 Hockey ACT competition starts this weekend with the first game to push back on Friday night at 6:15pm.

The Canberra Labor Club Capital League One Women’s Competition is set to be another tightly contested season in 2026. With several new coaches and notable player movement across the clubs, the competition promises plenty of excitement throughout the year.

Reigning premiers Tuggeranong Vikings will be aiming to defend their title after their 2025 Grand Final victory over North Canberra Eagles and will be determined to lift the shield once again in 2026.

Likely Top 4:

Tuggeranong Vikings will be eager to defend their title in 2026. With the return of almost their entire premiership-winning squad, along with several new recruits, the Vikings look well positioned for another strong campaign and will once again be a team to beat this season.

North Canberra Eagles will enter the season with a slightly refreshed lineup following some changes from 2025. The return of Taylor Thomson, alongside new addition Molly Robinson, will add strength to the side. With an exciting roster featuring a number of ACT and Canberra Chill athletes, the Eagles will be hoping 2026 is the year they finally lift the shield.

St Patrick’s begin a new chapter under head coach Lil Mutton. A largely consistent squad, bolstered by a few key additions and the return of players from international stints, will look to continue building the fast, attacking style of hockey the club is known for.

UC Stars are another team to watch in 2026. The side welcomes four new additions with strong representative experience, while also celebrating the return of Olympian and former Hockeyroo Edwina Bone alongside an otherwise settled defensive lineup. While Canberra Chill athlete Olivia Martin departs the squad, the Stars will boast several sibling combinations – Meredith and Edwina Bone, Samantha and Megan Bowles, Ellie and Hunter Baldwin, and Jade and Tayla Bartholomeusz – which could prove to be a powerful connection on the field.

This season we’re all in.

Our squad is stacked with talent, featuring players from U16, U21, Chill and Masters representative teams, we’ve got the experience and we’ve got the future. It’s an exciting mix that brings energy, creativity and composure like no other.

St Pats are exciting in the attacking circle (we love to score goals), quick in the midfield and composed through defense.

There’s talent all over Canberra, but nowhere else has culture and vibes like St Pats CL1.

Rising Star

Pip Lendrum

Team Says

Following a thrilling 2025 Grand Final win over North Canberra Eagles, the Tuggeranong Vikings Women (Vikqueens) head into the new season with confidence, momentum and a clear goal, to give the title defence a genuine shake and push for back-to-back success.

There is strength across every line, with an exciting blend of experience and emerging talent. NSW Pride super striker Laura Reid returns to lead the attack, while Canberra Chill athletes Mikki Patterson, Imogen Dorsett and Sarah Steinhart bring strong recent form and high-level performances into the campaign.

Immi will again represent the U21s at Nationals this year and is shaping for a big season ahead. Her flicking power continues to be a real weapon, adding another dimension to the Vikings’ attacking options.

While the group will miss the presence of Ash Chivers in 2026 as she prepares to welcome twins, the front line has been thoughtfully reinforced through smart recruitment and continued investment in developing young Vikings talent. The depth and succession coming through the program ensures the attacking unit remains strong and dynamic.

Off the back of Australian Indoor selections, Helen Legge and Sassie Economos return to the outdoor season bringing a wealth of skill, composure and high-performance experience.

Sophie Gaughan and Sarah White continue to set the tone for the group, lifting the tempo, driving standards and providing calm, consistent leadership. Ellen Vahey and Keira Polmanteer remain integral to this talented line-up, bringing reliability and impact in key moments. Meanwhile, an exciting wave of younger players is emerging, adding fresh energy, genuine depth and healthy competition across the squad.

Pip Lendrum returns after a late Chill call-up last season and a strong off-season of preparation. Her work rate, talent and commitment continue to add significant value to the group.

With improved fitness levels across the squad and a deep pool of talent to draw from, the Vikings Women are shaping up as a formidable outfit.

It promises to be another exciting season — built on quality hockey, strong cohesion and the belief that this group can go again.

Bring on 2026.

Suzi Foley. With a couple of years in the Manager role this year is Suzi’s to dominate the position. The introduction of Freckles to the lolly mix was a courageous move in 2025 but we are expecting significantly more from this up-and-comer in season 2026.

Team Says

With the inclusion of several new girls from interstate, the UC Stars have a great opportunity to learn, refresh and build new patterns of play. The focus for the group will be bringing the variety of styles together in a cohesive bundle of excitement! Some young players will get more opportunities to earn their full-time place in the team, by putting pressure on spots.
