A Message of Thanks

Dear Hockey ACT Community,

On Tuesday night following the AGM, it was with great sadness that I informed the Hockey ACT Board of my decision to resign from my role as CEO of Hockey ACT. Friday 10 July 2026 will formally end my third employment with the association after 19 years.

My connection to hockey is not dissimilar to many. It is the sport that all my family played. Some of my earliest memories of hockey were in the carpark outside of the Watt Field on a Monday night watching my dad play Masters when Lyneham was one pitch and a dirt car park. Hockey has always been a passion, and it has helped shape my life.

In 2003, Hockey ACT gave me my first internship. In 2005, Hockey ACT gave me my first full time job in sport. In 2019, Hockey ACT gave me the privilege to lead my first organisation when I was appointed CEO. It is hard to say anything other than I owe Hockey ACT an incredible amount of gratitude to allow me the honour to work in a sport that I love, for a community that is family and represent people who have become my friends. I have learned so much from so many and been given opportunities to do things I would never have imagined. For that I say thank you.

To the Hockey ACT community. This is a wonderful sport, and the community is made up of so many fantastic characters. Our strategic plan is built around the concept of offering every individual a chance to reach their best. It's a simple goal but one that speaks to an organisation that cares about every member, and I am proud to have had the opportunity to make that possible.

To the Life Members of the association. This association has been built figuratively and literally by some incredible human beings that I have learnt from and continue to learn from. I have nothing but respect for what you built, and I hope that I haven't let you down.

To Craig Sloan, the Hockey ACT Board and the staff both past and present, thank you for being an amazing support, your tireless dedication and for the confidence that you have shown in me. I have been so lucky to work with and learn from so many amazing people whose friendship I cherish.

I can never repay the association and its people for the difference you have made in my life. I thank you with sincerity and look forward to watching Hockey ACT achieve great things in the future.

Yours Sincerely,
Rob Sheekey
