CANBERRA CHILL ANNOUNCE FIRST PLAYER SIGNINGS FOR SEASON 2

The Canberra Chill are excited to announce the first player signings for the upcoming Sultana Bran Hockey One competition in October-November 2021. The signings include current Hockeyroos, Kookaburras, national junior players and local Canberra all-stars; demonstrating the depth of skill within the Canberra competition and players on both national and international stages.

“The Canberra Chill are very excited to announce todays signings for the 2021 Hockey One Season,” Canberra Chill High Performance Director, Ben Bishop stated.  “We are grateful to have such World Class talent in our team as we build toward improving on our results of the first season of Hockey One. We know these players will lead our Men’s and Women’s team with class, humility and passion that is a natural part of their character.”

Hockey ACT CEO, Rob Sheekey concurred, “Nothing makes the Hockey ACT community prouder than seeing our local stars on the national stage. To know we have the commitment from players, both local and national, reflects the quality of the Canberra Chill program and the wonderful support of the Capital region community.”

The following players are the first five signings for both the Men’s and Women’s teams.

Men’s Canberra Chill Signings

Andrew Charter – Arguably the best Goal Keeper in the World, Andrew will again be the rock in the Chill defensive wall. A stalwart of the Kookaburras team, his experience will be crucial for the up and coming Chill group.

James Day – Currently leading goal scorer in the Perth Hockey competition on the back of his World Class drag flick skill; James has become one of the best young defenders in the country.

Ben Staines – A member of the National Development Squad who has developed his all-round mid field game to be on the path to one-day achieving his goal of playing for the Kookaburras.

Jake Staines – Recently played for Australia A in a series against the Kookaburras, Jake will again be a leader within the Chill group in 2021 leading with his hard work mentality.

Anand Gupte – Recently played for Australia A in a series against the Kookaburras, Anand is a high quality defender with a brave and courageous approach to his style on his way to bigger and better things.

Women’s Canberra Chill Signings

Edwina Bone – As a long-running member of the Hockeyroos, Eddie will again bring her World Class game to the Chill along with her leadership skills and highly competitive and humble nature.

Brooke Peris – Current Hockeyroo, Brooke will join the Canberra Chill for her second season with the team. A World Class player and team mate with skill and craft to match.

Kalindi Commerford – Current Hockeyroo who has been a stable and hugely influential member of the Canberra Chill for some time who will again bring her International experience and personal drive to the team.

Sophie Gaughan – A high quality competitor with speed and skill to match any, Sophie plays with a smile and determination and a crucial piece in the Chill midfield.

Jessica Clements – Jess brings energy, work ethic and enjoyment to the game that inspires the culture of the Chill. A quality and creative forward who will drive the forward flow of the team.

Training for the larger squads will commence in August, followed by final team selections confirmed in September, and games hitting off in early October. The first Canberra home game of the season will be Friday 15^th of October 2021, when the Canberra Chill take on the Adelaide Fire, at the National Hockey Centre in Lyneham.

The Canberra Chill have a long road ahead before competition commences in October, but the squads are prepared to work hard, and look forward to bringing the Sultana Bran Hockey One League back to Canberra in 2021.
