CANBERRA CHILL LIGHT IT UP IN ROUND ONE
It was a stellar day that led into a spectacular evening at the EPC Solar Hockey Stadium for the opening round of the 2026 One Active Hockey One Season. With a record-breaking rolling in and filling the stands, the night was set to be a big one.
With 7 athletes set to make their debut across the men and the women, the sides were ready for the challenge and a put on a thriller evening.
The women opened the campaign at 6pm against the Adelaide Fire. The CDC Canberra Chill women found the net in the 3rd minute with a Naomi Evans field goal and conversion. German international and debutant, Lynn Krings followed on in the 5th minute and converted to have the Chill to a 4-0 lead. Dutch International Mabel Brands with a thriller goal and conversion pushed the women to a 6-0 lead at half time. The biggest half time score line for the Chill women. The Adelaide Fire fought back in the 3rd quarter slotting in 3 goals, but Lynn Krings decided 2 wasn’t enough and slotted in her third for a hat-trick on debut. Alyssa Smith was crucial in the net shutting down the Adelaide Fire’s conversion attempts. The Chill women coming out with a 7-3 win in their first game of the season. Player of the Match awarded to Lynn Krings.
The men followed on with big shoes to fill but they were up for the challenge. It was a goal spree with Ben Staines opening the scoring in the 12th minute with a field goal and conversion, followed on by brother Jake Staines in the 22nd minute with a field goal and conversion. Adelaide Fire slotted one back but debutant Max Larkin was class in the net, shutting down the shootout attempt. Dylan Brick lighting up the net with a drag flick to take the men to a 5-1 lead at the half time break. The Chill Men didn’t stop there. Jay Macdonald with a nice tip in from a penalty corner. Jake Staines waiting eager on the post to slot in his 3rd and 4th for the night. Dylan Brick closing it out with a penalty stroke to take the men to a 9-1 win. Player of the Match awarded to Jake Staines.
It was a thriller of an evening with an incredible 2681 attendees rolling through the gates and filling the stadium and breaking another Hockey One record.
Both sides head to Melbourne to take on the Melbourne Cobras on the 17th October. The Women up first at 5:00pm followed by the Men at 6:45pm.
