CANBERRA CHILL GO END TO END IN ADELAIDE

Fresh off the bye week the Canberra Chill headed south to Adelaide for Round 5.

Flight delays, missing bags and a milestone match all on the table for Sunday afternoon.

After a big morning searching for goalie gear and uniforms, the women opened the campaign for Naomi Evans’ 100^th game. The women were out ready to go and were under pressure early with Adelaide scoring first with a field goal but Chill goalkeeper Alyssa Smith closed out their shootout attempt. The Chill came out with passion in the second quarter putting the pressure back on Adelaide. Adelaide took their chance and managed to find the net again with a field goal and conversion to take the lead to 3-0 in the third quarter. The Chill threw everything at it, taking off Alyssa for an additional field player which paid off and saw Amy Lawton find the net on a quick rebound. Amy found the net in her conversion attempt and was taken to ground but was still able to slot in the goal. A couple of short corners at the end of the match gave the Chill a chance to level it up and take the lead but the side were unable to find the net. Final score 3-2 to the Adelaide Fire.

The men followed on after with the return of Brendan Hill in the net and the debut of Kookaburra Tom Craig and talented ACT local Peter Crossman. Adelaide found the net first, but the Chill fired back with a short corner goal from Dylan Brick, a flying reverse back hand from Jake Staines and a cracking tomahawk from Aiden Dooley and conversion. Japan international Koji Yamasaki added to the scoring with a nice back stick touch into the bottom corner from a rebound. The men fired on after half time with another drag flick from Dylan Brick, a flying shot from Tom Craig which saw Ben Staines tip it in. The fire pushed back but Chill goalkeeper Brendan Hill was on fire himself with a stick save shutting down the drag flick from Kookaburra Jeremy Hayward. Ben Staines with quick hands from a rebound save found the net to finish out the third quarter. Koji Yamasaki fired a shot from the top sending a boom through the ground and converting his shootout to take the men to 10-1. Dylan Brick slotted in his third for the day with another dragflick. James Day feeling a little left out slotted one in him himself in the fourth quarter. Koji Yamasaki with a one time shot sent it flying into the net but the Adelaide goalkeeper shut down the conversion. Tom Craig on debut chips one over the keeper and slots in the conversion. Despite the scoreline, Adelaide Fire battled hard but Brendan Hill had a great game in the net. Final score 15-1 to the Canberra Chill. Tom Craig Player of the Match on debut.

The sides are away again in Round 6 where they will head to Melbourne to take on Hockey Club Melbourne on Saturday 15^th November with the women at 6:30pm and the men at 8:15pm.
