Evans Hits the 100

MILESTONE MOMENT FOR NAOMI EVANS
This weekend Canberra Chill athlete Naomi Evans will tick over her 100th National League game.
Naomi debuted for the Canberra Strikers in 2010 as an 18-year-old and went on to play an incredible 69 games until the AHL (Australian Hockey League) was rebranded at the end of 2018 and became the Hockey One League in 2019, the Canberra side renamed as the Canberra Chill.
Naomi was the first ever athlete to score for the Canberra Chill when she debuted against the Brisbane Blaze in 2019, scoring a field goal in the 53rd minute, followed by a shootout conversion. The game finished at a 2-2 draw in full time, headed into shootouts where the Chill secured the win 3-2, including another goal by Naomi.

Naomi scored for the Canberra Strikers 18 times and currently sits at 15 goals for the Canberra Chill.
Naomi has been a part of the leadership group since the beginning of the Canberra Chill in 2019. Helping lead the side to the finals series in 2019 where they finished 4th and in 2023 where they finished 2nd. Hoping to help lead the women to another finals series in 2025.

“A lot of things came to my mind when I found out was hitting 100 games. Firstly, that I feel old but also thankful my body has allowed me to be able to do this for so long. Nothing is guaranteed in sport so to be able to do this 100 times is pretty special and something I don't take for granted. Playing for ACT/Chill is something that I am super proud of. I feel so lucky that over the years I have been part of this amazing community all while getting to do it with my best friends. Some of my best memories are from my time playing for ACT/Chill so I can't wait to go out there and continue this journey.” Evans said.
Naomi will be the second female to hit 100 games after Nicole Arrold, who did it in 2010, the same year Evans debuted.
This is an incredible achievement as the AHL seasons, on average, were 13 games whereas the Hockey One league is only 8 matches if you make the finals series.
Naomi will take the field for her 100th match in Adelaide against the Adelaide Fire on Sunday November 9 at 1:30pm AEDT. The game is live and free on the 7Plus app.
