Support Hockey ACT's Facility Improvement Program This End of Financial Year
As the end of the financial year approaches, we invite you to help secure the future of hockey in Canberra through a tax-deductible donation to the Hockey ACT Facility Improvement Program via the Australian Sports Foundation.
All donations of $2 or more are tax-deductible.
Hockey ACT is proud to be the home of 22 local clubs and the Canberra Chill. From Hookin2Hockey programs for beginners through to Masters competitions, we provide opportunities for thousands of Canberrans of all ages and abilities to participate in a sport that is inclusive, welcoming and community focused.
The Home of Hockey in the ACT
Hockey has a long and proud history in the ACT. Our Lyneham facility was first established in 1986, with Watt Field added in 1987. As participation continued to grow, Tuggeranong Hockey Park was developed in 2000 to support Canberra's expanding hockey community.
Today, the Lyneham precinct features three synthetic pitches – Carter, Powell and Watt Fields – alongside Pick Up Stix Kitchen & Bar, Hockey ACT offices and community spaces used by a range of local organisations. Tuggeranong Hockey Park includes two synthetic pitches, change rooms, a clubhouse and canteen, providing an important hub for hockey in Canberra's south.
Together, these facilities support thousands of participants every year.
More Than Just Hockey Fields
Our venues are where players learn new skills, build confidence, develop friendships and create lifelong connections to the sport. They host weekly competitions, school programs, community events, state and national championships, and provide pathways for athletes aspiring to represent the ACT and Australia.
These facilities are critical community assets that bring people together and support healthy, active lifestyles across Canberra.
Investing in the Future
While Hockey ACT continues to actively pursue government grants and other funding opportunities to support facility improvements, many projects require a co-contribution from the organisation. Grant programs are often highly competitive and rarely cover the full cost of delivery, meaning Hockey ACT must contribute its own funds to bring projects to life. Community donations play an important role in helping Hockey ACT meet these co-funding requirements, strengthen future funding applications, and deliver projects that improve the sustainability, accessibility and quality of our facilities.
As custodians of hockey in the ACT, we are committed to ensuring our facilities remain safe, accessible and fit for purpose. However, maintaining and upgrading ageing infrastructure requires significant investment.
We are grateful for the Federal Government and ACT Government's support in delivering major upgrades to the Watt and Carter Fields. With these important projects now complete, our focus is turning to initiatives that will improve the long-term sustainability of our facilities.
A key priority is investing in energy and water efficiency projects that will help reduce electricity and water consumption, lower ongoing operating costs and minimise our environmental footprint. These savings can then be redirected into supporting participation, community programs and future facility improvements.
Alongside these sustainability initiatives, several important infrastructure projects still require funding. Without continued investment, the quality of facilities that support participation, development programs and major events will become increasingly difficult to maintain.
How Your Donation Will Help
Every donation, no matter the size, will directly contribute to improving and preserving the facilities that serve our hockey community.
Priority projects include:
- Water Harvesting System Upgrade
Expanding our capacity to capture, store and reuse water, reducing reliance on mains water, lowering operating costs and improving the environmental sustainability of our facilities. - Taylor Field LED Lighting Upgrade
Upgrading the Taylor Field lighting system to LED technology, making it the final hockey field in the ACT to transition to energy-efficient lighting. This project will reduce electricity consumption, lower maintenance costs and provide improved lighting performance for players, officials and spectators. - Building LED Lighting Program
Replacing existing lighting across Hockey ACT facilities with energy-efficient LED lighting. This initiative will reduce energy use, lower operating costs and contribute to Hockey ACT's commitment to environmental sustainability. - R.J. Brown Indoor Hall Roof Replacement
Replacing the ageing roof to ensure the hall remains safe, functional and available for training, development programs and community use. - Northern Grandstand Roofing
Providing improved shelter and comfort for players, families, volunteers and spectators attending matches and events throughout the year.
