THREE HOCKEY ACT ATHLETES SET FOR HOCKEYROOS DEBUT
Hockey ACT and the ACT Academy of Sport are thrilled to congratulate Alyssa Smith, Georgina West, and Georgie
Smithers on their selection to make their Hockeyroos debuts at the upcoming FIH Pro League matches in Hobart from
20–25 February.
The trio’s selection marks an exciting milestone for Hockey ACT, highlighting the strength of the local pathway and the
continued success of the ACTAS hockey program in developing athletes for international competition.
All three athletes have enjoyed standout recent campaigns. Each represented Australia at the Junior World Cup in
Chile late last year, gaining valuable experience on the world stage. They were also integral members of the Canberra
Chill during the 2025 Hockey One League season, playing key roles throughout the national competition.
Alyssa Smith and Georgina West were stars of the U21 ACT women who won a gold medal at the most recent Under
21 National Championships in Bendigo, underlining their readiness for senior international opportunities.
Georgie Smithers and Alyssa Smith further strengthened their claims for national selection through strong
performances for Australia A in January, competing in a Test series against Japan – also held in Hobart.
Hockey ACT National Athlete Pathway Head Coach Matt Cook praised the athletes’ dedication and progression
through the local system.
“This is a proud moment for Alyssa, Georgina, and Georgie, and a fantastic reflection of the hard work they have put in
over many years,” Cook said.
“To have three athletes making their Hockeyroos debut in the same Pro League window is incredibly exciting. It shows
the strength of our pathway and the opportunities that exist for athletes in Canberra to reach the very highest level of
the sport.”
“Their selection is also a credit to the coaches, clubs, and support networks who have helped guide them along the
way.”
The Hockeyroos will face China and Spain during the Hobart Pro League matches, providing an outstanding platform
for the ACT trio to begin their senior international careers.
Hockey ACT wishes Alyssa, Georgina, and Georgie the very best as they represent Australia on home soil.
